“THE BEST TEACHING IS THE ONE THAT USES THE LEAST AMOUNT OF WORDS NECESSARY FOR THE TASK” M. MONTESSORI
In this stage, the environment is divided into curricular areas where materials are displayed and it allows freedom of movement. Children are still building themselves through activities of practical life and sensorial materials.
They enrich their vocabulary, they are introduced to sounds and symbols which enable them to write and read in the future, they work with mathematical concepts, Geometry, Geography, Zoology and Biology among others. Arts and musical expression are also of major importance and activities are carried out every day.
Children can work by themselves or in small groups, respecting their own pace and style of learning. Each child chooses one material by taking it from its shelf and returning it to its place so that it can be used by others.
They gather in the dining room to enjoy a healthy snack. Here they prepare the meal, set the table and clean up afterwards, acquiring a taste for responsibility.
The timetable for this environment is 9am-2pm.
